FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A shooting outside GB3 in northeast Fresno has injured one person and sent a bullet flying into the popular gym.

One person has been hospitalized after being hit by a bullet.

Another bullet went flying at the front pane of the gym at Shepherd and Champlain, shattering the glass and entering the area where the children's daycare is located.

However, that part of the gym has been closed off for months and there was no one inside.

The intersection of Champlain and Shepherd was closed off for several hours.

Police say at around 3 in the afternoon, they received reports of shots fired in the area.

They found a vehicle in the intersection with a man who had been shot in his upper body.

Officer spoke with him, with witnesses in the parking lot and looked at surveillance video and determined there were three vehicles involved.

"We were getting some conflicting reports that it might have been the attempted theft of a vehicle. It might have been a carjacking. It might have been road rage. We have not been able to confirm any of that," said Lt. Larry Bowlan. "We think they met in the area and a disturbance occurred."

Police say at least one man ran away and abandoned the black vehicle. Another man in a light-colored, mid to early 2000s SUV sped off.

"We didn't realize until later on that we had suffered a bullet hole to on of our windows way in the corner of the building where no one works out. It's not open," said GB3 manager Sean Clinton.

GB3 confirmed the children's area has been closed for quite some time now. Nobody inside the gym or parking lot was hurt.

Action News spoke to one man who heard a single gunshot while he was working out. He said not too many people noticed because they had their headphones in.

"I can't believe it to be honest. Normally it's pretty chill in this part of town so I didn't really expect any of this," said Justice Cole. "Especially that the gym actually got shot."
