How to Choose a Gym
Before you sign up, how do you find a gym that works both for your workout style and your wallet?

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- If you're trying to keep up with your New Year's resolution to get in shape, a gym is a good place to start. But joining one can be a little intimidating and the choices overwhelming. That's why In-Shape health clubs offer a free 7-day trial. Visalia District Manager Tom Lange says there's no better way to finding the right fit to get fit: "It's nice to kinda come in and try out the different amenities we have to offer, try out the different parts of the facility, see if it's somewhere they feel comfortable, if it's the environment they're looking for."

Next: consider your needs carefully. And all the excuses you might come up with not to go.

Is the location convenient? If you're serious about getting fit, you'll be going 3 to 5 times a week.

If you have kids- is there childcare?

Or if you like to swim is there a pool?

Does it have the classes you like?

For 65-year-old Janis Christopher, it was the senior citizens classes that brought her in: "I just never went and my girlfriend kept encouraging me and I thought 'This is it, January 2nd I'm in the gym' and I was."

For some, a smaller, more personalized workout is more motivating. Plenty of specialized gyms offer that too, including RhoFit Personal Training in North Fresno. Rhonda Murphy: "I want people to feel comfortable. I want people to feel safe when they walk in those doors. So there's big gyms, there's little gyms, I think they all work right, you just gotta find the one that fits you."

Lastly, before signing up, it's important to consider the contract, including any fees and what happens if you cancel. Can you pay month to month? All important things to consider, before you take that first step toward a healthier 2015.
