Central Valley cancer patients treated to a day of pampering at a local spa

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- If you walk into Body Del Sol Medical Spa you will find a retreat where men and women can get away from the stresses of everyday life. On Wednesday, it doubled as a spa party for those battling cancer.

"A day that they don't have tests or therapy, just a day to take care of themselves and to forget for one day," said Ayde Mendibles, with Body Del Sol Medical Spa.

The free event offered facials and massages, all featuring a product that caters to those undergoing treatment. Innovative Skincare features a cancer care line that employees at Body Del Sol spent weeks in training to be certified to use.

Mendibles said, "The cancer care products are really treating the side effects of cancer patients going through therapy, radiation burns, and dry cracked skin."

The day ends with a makeover and there they are going to be able to learn new makeup applications.

New to cancer treatments Janis Lee did not know if she would feel up to making the event.

"The chemo just ravages the whole body, not just cancer. I'm anemic, I have to be careful-- I'm immunel (sic) compromised."

Diagnosed with metastatic ovarian cancer in July of this year, Leigh said she capitalizes on the days she feels up to going out.

"It's just nice to do something normal, something fun, something girly cuz everything's about cancer."

This being the second year, Body Del Sol plans to make this an annual event.
