Child in Merced County tests positive for measles
The Merced County Department of Public Health has confirmed that a child in Merced County has measles.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Merced County Department of Public Health has confirmed that a child in Merced County has measles.

The health department said the child has since recovered and the department is working with the family to contact people who may have been exposed to the child. The source of the child's case has not been determined.

They also said additional reports of measles cases in the county are being investigated.

Measles is a highly infectious, airborne disease. The most effective protection against measles is to complete the two-dose series of MMR vaccination (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella). If only one or no MMR is documented, individuals should contact their primary care provider to get vaccinated. MMR vaccinations are also currently available at the Merced County Department of Health for all persons one year of age or older.
