CHP officers provide free car seat safety check at Mexican Consulate of Fresno
Parents and caregivers were able to bring their child's seat to make sure it is properly fitted to their car.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- California Highway Patrol officers checked dozens of car seats Saturday at the Mexican Consulate of Fresno.

The Safety Seat Check Up event started at 8:30 a.m. and ended at noon. Parents and caregivers were able to bring their child's seat to make sure it is properly fitted to their car.

Authorities say unsecured seats are a common problem in accidents.

"Out of every five car seats, four are not properly installed and that is a high number," Graciela James with the CHP said.

Technicians also checked car seats for defects and recalls.
