Whether you are running or weightlifting, it is easy to get hurt if your form or technique is wrong.

Do not assume you are exercising the right way. If your gym has trainers or fitness staff, they may be able to watch you exercise and give you advice on improving your technique.

Fitness Magazines or online videos that show correct technique may also be helpful.

An easy way to prevent an injury is to slow your motion down. Working with beginners, I find them using a jerking motion at the bottom of the exercise so they can lift heavier weight which is incorrect. You can injure the joint by hyper extending. Start light and build up your strength and confidence.
