Healing garden planned for Woodward Park
The scenic park will set aside three acres for the Art of Life Healing Garden.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Woodward Park has long been popular among active people who like to jog and ride the trails. But part of the park in North Fresno will also give families a chance to reflect and heal.

The scenic park will set aside three acres for the Art Of Life Healing Garden. Designs included a cancer ribbon trail and an amphitheater. It will be a place for families to celebrate life and hope.

Art of Life executive director Jennelle Higton said, "Certainly a lot of families being involved. Playscapes for children. This will be a place whether you have kids or you like a quiet place to think, reflect, or find hope this is where you'll come."

A million dollars will be raised through private donations to expand the community spirit of healing in this tranquil setting. Dr. Christopher Perkins of California Oncology said it takes more than just medical treatment to heal a patient. "It requires healing of the mind and the spirit. They say that communities that are more connected to the outdoors require less parks in the development of their communities so nature really plays a big part in the healing process."

The City of Fresno donated the land for the healing garden. New trees have already been planted at the site.
