FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Three men are under arrest, accused of leading officers on a high speed chase down Blackstone Avenue in Central Fresno.

Their car later crashed on Shields Avenue just before midnight on Thursday. Deputies say the three young men inside tried to run away, but were quickly caught. They say they found a pistol inside the car that had been stolen out of the Bay Area.

Investigators say at one point the suspect's car was doing 85 miles an hour down Blackstone Avenue -- and even faster minutes earlier on Freeway 41.

"His speeds were [sic], he originally passed the sergeant on the 41 freeway. He was doing about 120, 125 by the sergeant's estimate. So excessive speed and driving recklessly," said Lt. Joe Smith, Fresno County Sheriffs Office.

Investigators are now looking at the paperwork in the car and trying to figure out if it was stolen.
