A teenage girl involved in a traffic accident in Madera County on Saturday has died from her injuries.

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A 13-year-old Mariposa girl involved in a traffic accident in Madera County has died from her injuries. She and four others were involved in a head-on crash on Highway 41 near Avenue 12 on Saturday.

The California Highway Patrol says a 70-year-old Los Banos man was driving a Toyota Tundra with his wife in the passenger seat, when he crossed into oncoming traffic. His truck collided with a Toyota Corolla. The couple suffered minor to moderate injuries.

Two women in the car had to be extricated and were taken to the hospital with major injuries. The teenage victim was in the backseat. Investigators believe she was not wearing her seat belt.

Authorities are still trying to figure out why the Tundra crossed into the southbound lanes, but they say alcohol was not involved.
