FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Your baby is learning at birth. 80% of a baby's brain develops by age three. Parents are encouraged to talk, read, and sing to their children as much as possible. Action News anchors Graciela Moreno and Dale Yurong host "Children First: The Early Years," Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 6:30PM.

Segment 1

Studies show three-year-olds from wealthier families are exposed to 30 million more words compared to kids from lower income families. Kids with a smaller vocabulary are more likely to fall behind when they enter school. Learn how local child advocates are trying to close that achievement gap. In this special, learn effective ways to connect with your babies and toddlers. Discover local programs helping low income parents bond with their children. Find out how many words your child should know by age three. Check out a south valley program that puts books into parents' hands before babies are born!

Segment 3

Children First is a year-long effort focusing on the challenges, problems and opportunities facing our youth in Central California. The program shows how the average person can make a difference in a child's life and highlights local organizations that work with kids. The Children First campaign includes half-hour programs like "The Early Years," thirty-second public service announcements, and special stories on Action News. ABC30 thanks our partners below for putting Children First in the Central Valley.
