Talk, Read, Sing! ABC30 special focusing on early years of child development
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Your baby is learning at birth. 80% of a baby's brain develops by age three. Parents are encouraged to talk, read, and sing to their children as much as possible. Studies show three-year-olds from wealthier families are exposed to 30 million more words compared to kids from lower income families. Kids with a smaller vocabulary are more likely to fall behind when they enter school. Learn how local child advocates are trying to close that achievement gap. In this special, learn effective ways to connect with your babies and toddlers. Discover local programs helping low income parents bond with their children. Children First is a year-long effort focusing on the challenges, problems and opportunities facing our youth in Central California. The program shows how the average person can make a difference in a child's life and highlights local organizations that work with kids. The Children First campaign includes half-hour programs like "The Early Years," thirty-second public service announcements, and special stories on Action News.
