Man shot while bringing in his trash cans in Southeast Fresno

Investigators are now looking for the suspect.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday on Madison Avenue near Peach Avenue. The Fresno County Sheriff's Office said a suspect walked up to a man who was taking in his trash cans off the street, and told the him to go inside the house with him. When the man refused, the suspect shot him once in the torso.

Investigators say the suspect then ran away.

The victim was able to go back inside his home and call 911. An ambulance took him to Community Regional Medical Center where he was undergoing surgery late Tuesday morning.

The Sheriff's Office said they did not know the condition of the victim. They also said it was unclear if the suspect and the victim knew each other.

Investigators described the suspect as being a man in his 20s. He is 5'10", 180 lbs. and was wearing a dark hooded jacket and dark colored pants.
