VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- According to the Tulare County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was involved in a shooting after a short pursuit in Visalia.

It happened around 10:00 Tuesday night. Investigators say the deputy tried to pull over two women in an SUV for a traffic violation near Dinuba Boulevard and Houston Avenue. The driver then took off and the deputy followed.

During the chase, the suspect vehicle hit a car and a truck.

Witnesses say the deputy rammed the SUV off the road and after it crashed into the fence, the deputy got out and fired two shots. No one was hit.

The two suspects were arrested and the deputy was placed on administrative leave.

Action News was told the chase was recorded by the deputy's dash cam.

It's still unknown why the deputy fired shots. The reason for the traffic stop is also under investigation.
