4.3 earthquake strikes off Northern California coast

A preliminary-magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Northern California on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016. (U.S. Geological Survey)

The earthquake hit a short distance from shore about 40 miles south of Eureka at 10:33 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
