2 kids injured, dad arrested after suspected DUI crash in Atwater

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two young children are injured and their father is under arrest after a suspected DUI crash in Atwater.

Authorities arrested Cristian Menchaca, 20, just after 10 p.m. Friday. Atwater police say he was driving drunk with his 3-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son in the car, when he did not stop for a flashing red light and crashed into two other vehicles near Juniper Avenue and First Street.

Investigators believe the little girl was not properly restrained in the car. She was flown to a Fresno hospital with injuries to her face. The baby boy was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Merced. The other people involved were suffering from back pain.

Menchaca was taken to an area hospital for a blood sample. He was then booked into jail.
