TULARE, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two teens were shot and killed near a taco truck in Tulare. It happened Sunday night, just after 11.
There is still crime tape on the corner of Inyo and South B Street in Tulare. Remnants of a violent scene where two teenage boys were gunned down. One was 14-years-old and the other was 16.
Lieutenant Barry Jones said, "The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, the 14-year-old was transported by ambulance to Tulare Regional Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries."
By morning, there were two crosses surrounded by candles, memorials just feet apart for both teens.
"Any time a young person gets killed, it's tragic," Lt. Jones said.
Juan Malano lives nearby. He didn't hear the gunshots but he says there's always violence on these streets, "It's too bad, you know...too much trouble right here."
He was the only person in the neighborhood willing to talk on camera. Everyone else we approached was worried about gangs and retaliation. One person did, however, point out a broken window and said it was damage from stray bullet, fired on Sunday.
Lt. Jones said, "Obviously when you have someone shooting off guns in the city, it's dangerous for anyone living in the area."
As for a motive, police aren't sure. Investigators have leads and likely, video of the crime. There are surveillance cameras at businesses in the area. One of the business owners says his cameras captured the gunman walking up, pulling the trigger and leaving the scene. He said police have a copy of the video but he wouldn't give it to us.
Investigators are not releasing the identities of the teens but they did say both were from Southern California.
