Madera golf course re-opening after nearly shutting its doors for good
After proposing the idea to the hospital board LPGA teaching professional Cindy Vining will operate Valley Golf Center.

MADERA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Whether you are perfecting your technique or just taking a swing at the sport-- Valley Golf Center is hoping you tee up with them.

Valley Golf Center owner Cindy Vining said, "It was a big undertaking, but I've been teaching here for 15 years and I've seen the possibilities."

Twenty-nine school teams in the Fresno-Madera area, including Fresno State, use the greens for practice-- as well as the non-profit First Tee.

Back in October, the owners of the facility announced Riverpark Golf Center would be closing. But in December, Vining took over the lease to open Valley Golf Center, and she's already seeing this investment as a hole in one.

"We're hoping to be open for quite a while, we have a lease through the hospital. Which is fabulous, I think they saw the need for the community and the different organizations that come out here."

The renovations go beyond the "Masters Green" finish on the clubhouse. Crews spent Thursday repairing nets, painting stripes and sprucing up the clubhouse.

Vining said, "The concrete as you come into the new barriers to the new targets."

The public will get to see the new renovations at the upcoming soft opening, but it's what's to come in the next few months that will be really something to see.

Vining said, "A cafe, new balls, new ball machines, we have a whole new staff yeah it's terrific."

The cafe is still undergoing some work but by April, the plan is to have it up and running with a new chef on staff.

Vining, "We're planning a buds and suds nights for the guys on Wednesday nights, so we've got something's that haven't been done before."

There are also plans for family nights, which will include adding designated kids play to the schedule.

You may know it as Riverpark Golf Center but in October owners sold the property to Valley Children's Hospital
