The Tulare County Office of Education and its partners are preparing for the Annual Slick Rock Student Film Festival. Middle school and high school students from Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced and Tulare counties are eligible to enter.

The competition includes more than 20 categories including music video, public service announcement, sports highlights and news broadcast. Judges will look at content and creativity plus other skills used to produce the videos.

Kathleen Green-Martens with TCOE says video production can engage students who may not be interested in other extra-curricular activities like sports or music.

Ryan Kish, a senior from Buchanan High was part of the team that won Best of Show at the 2017 Slick Rock competition. He and Green-Martens appeared on Valley Focus with host Margot Kim to talk about video production and the impact it can have on young lives.

The deadline to submit entries is March 9, 2018. Winners will be announced at the Slick Rock Student Film Festival Awards Ceremony on May 11, 2018, at the Fox Theater in Visalia.
