More than 10 parcel lockers pried open in Coarsegold
Postal investigators are looking into almost a dozen parcel lockers that were broken into on Saturday.

COARSEGOLD, Calif. (KFSN) -- "It's been going on for quite a while but not to the extent that it is now in the last six months, it's just gotten so much worse," said Coarsegold resident Dave Fernandez.

Residents in Coarsegold say it is happening more often and over the weekend, it happened again.

Postal investigators are looking into almost a dozen parcel lockers that were broken into on Saturday.

Jenna Singleton says she is fed up and wants to see it stop.

"It is very concerning, it's not the first time it's happened to me. I've had my identity stolen once," said Singleton.

New parcel lockers were installed on Tuesday afternoon, replacing the ones that were pried open.

Some had notes telling people to pick up their mail at the post office because their mailboxes were still easily accessible from the back

"They're locked. The issue with them is that if someone is to break into the back side, they have access to every box in that cluster," said Madera County Commander Bill Ward.

Madera County sheriff's deputies were dealing with another string of Coarsegold mail break-ins late last year.

When they see situations like this happen, they step up with patrols.

"We typically try to move resources that way to have more patrol checks, so deputies are going by those areas more often," said Ward.

Residents like Fernandez says because of the break-ins, he prefers to just pick up his mail at the Post Office.

"It's an inconvenience to come here, but at least you know it's safe," said Fernandez.

So far, no one has been found responsible for the break-ins, but deputies ask that if anyone knows anything to call the sheriff's office.
