Reedley Middle College High School building new facility to benefit dual education students

REEDLEY, Calif. (KFSN) -- After six years of planning, students at Reedley Middle College High School finally have a place they can call home.

"We are just excited, the kids are excited, they are going to continue to flourish," said Program Admin for Kings County School District Alejandro Juarez.

The empty field at Reedley College will soon be a state of the art facility able to house almost two times the amount of students.

"We know that the Reedley Middle College High School is the top performing high school in the region and now they are going to have a facility that can match that," said Reedley College President Dr. Sandra Caldwell.

The school bridges the gap between high school and college. Students take college courses with the goal of graduating transfer ready or with an associate's degree, but a lack of space makes it a little difficult. Right now the school operates out of six portable units.

"We are at our max and we need this, our students need this to continue," said Juarez.

Jeremy Hammond is a senior at RMCHS and he knows how much the new school will mean to future students.

"I am going to be graduating, but my sister is coming in as a freshman and she is going to be able to take full advantage of the facility they are building here," said Hammond.

The Knights are one step closer to having a place they can call their own. The new school is expected to be up and running by February of 2019.
