Unique healthcare center opens for Clovis Unified employees
The new health center will provide routine medical care and lab services right in the middle of the Clovis Unified School District and employees will not have to pay a co-pay.

CLOIVS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Clovis Unified is opening the door to employees for a one of a kind health center. The new facility opened on Friday morning and was made possible by a special committee made up employees and retirees by the district's own health plan.

"Several years ago they saw this idea and thought could we do this? And the idea behind it is to literally bend the curve down in the terms of health care cost and we have been doing that," Clovis Unified Superintendent, Eimear O'Farrell said.

O'Farrell says during the last two months all employees had a premium holiday on their premium health cost. The committed looked across the country for a program that specifically provided a health center exclusively to employees.

Clovis Unified is partnering with MiCare which will run the facility on the corner of Herndon and Highway 168. It will have eight exam rooms and labs that can serve as many as 50 patients a day.

"So they come and get an appointment, they don't have to pay a co-pay and they are able to receive primary care services. So we have a range of services we provide here from preventive to acute care," Darik Croft of MiCare said.

The facility will have hours specially designed for teachers. They will be able to make appointments early in the morning or late evening without having to miss any time in the classroom.
