5,000 tons of almond hulls caught fire in Chowchilla
Authorities say 5,000 tons of almond hulls caught fire in the 9000 block of S. Minturn Road near Chowchilla.

CHOWCHILLA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Authorities say 5,000 tons of almond hulls caught fire in the 9000 block of S. Minturn Road near Chowchilla.

The fire started around 5 a.m. on Monday. A total of 120,000 tons of almond hulls are on the property.

Authorities believe the fire could burn for two to three days.

Twenty firefighters battled the fire, but windy conditions kept them from making progress.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
