FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a cockfighting ring at a packing shed in rural Fresno. Deputies made the discovery on Lincoln Avenue near Cornelia on Sunday. The roosters are being cared for at the Central California SPCA.

When deputies found the cockfighting ring -- they said a large crowd of people jumped in their cars and fled the area. Deputies found more than 100 live roosters and several dead ones. Animal experts say it's hard to rehabilitate roosters that have been in this kind of environment.

Deputies also found cockfighting spurs, medication, and evidence of betting on the animals. No arrests were made. Deputies said this remains an ongoing investigation.
