License plate at hit-and-run scene helps Madera police catch DUI suspect

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Madera police have arrested a man who they say left evidence at a hit-and-run that led them directly to the suspect.

Officers believe Gregorio Vargas was driving a truck when he crashed into a parked car. After the collision, police say Vargas left the scene. Only his license plate had come off his truck, and that led to his immediate identification and arrest.

Investigators also determined he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
