6-year-old boy hit and killed by truck near Sanger

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A six-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a pickup truck in Fresno County.

The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on McCall Avenue near Annadale Avenue, west of Sanger. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the boy with his grandfather, who was bringing trash cans in from the street, when he darted on to McCall Avenue in front of the pickup truck. Investigators say the driver tried to stop, but could not avoid hitting the child.

The child was taken to a hospital where he later died.

CHP investigators are calling the incident a tragic accident.
