Merced Co. Supervisor John Pedrozo fatally strikes pedestrian

The CHP said the man was standing on the road in the dark when Pedrozo hit and killed him.

According to the California Highway Patrol report, just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Pedrozo was driving a on Doppler Road, north of Le Grand Road, when he saw a pedestrian wearing dark clothing and no shirt standing in the road with his hands raised in the air directly in front of his truck.

The victim, a 33-year-old man from Merced, was hit and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say alcohol was not a factor, but the incident remains under investigation.
