FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a deadly collision in Fresno County Monday.

It happened at the intersection of Valentine and North Avenues shortly after 7 p.m. when officers say the driver of a blue Honda ran a stop sign and was broadsided by a Mercedes Benz at the intersection.

The Honda was severed in half and the driver died at the scene.

"I think the driver of the Honda, who ran the stop sign and caused the collision, was distracted by the setting sun to the west of us," Sgt. Mike Trenholm of the CHP said.

Officers say the victim who died was an Asian woman in her 60s.

The driver of the Mercedes was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
