New animal attractions at Big Fresno Fair, long list of new foods

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- On opening day, the 2015 Big Fresno Fair says hello to some new attractions, including the Pollywood Bird Show.

The exotic birds there aren't shy. You may have seen them on the Tonight Show, in commercials, or on the big screen.

"The birds do tricks and they sing and they talk and we show some behind the scenes stuff that we do for film work cause I don't know if you're like me but I always press the special features on the movie, to see how'd they do that, so we're going to show a little how they did that stuff," said bird trainer Nancy Riegler.

From birds riding mini-tricycles, to the BMX Pros trick team performing stunts on their life-size bikes, there was plenty of action at the new attractions. But there were also opportunities to learn, and interact, at the new Egypt Wild Side exhibit.

"It's not like a fair exhibit you would expect, it's more Disney-esque, and it really feels like you're coming into the Nile and experiencing Egypt and Cleopatra and all the beautiful things that went with that era," said curator and lead animal handler Karla Majewski.

There's also an Indiana Jones-esque snake pit, and in the back, a work of art in the making by a world class sand sculptor.

After all that walking, you're guaranteed to work up an appetite. And for that, Pepe's Mariscos can provide, with their new fried quesadilla.

"We just put Monterrey Jack cheese, and it's so good," said Pepe's owner Lola Ramirez. "I tell people eat it like this and shove all this stuff tomatoes, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream inside, and you got it."

The quesadilla is simple, but so good, and the cheese melts in your mouth.

"And guilt free, just a little," Ramirez added.

But what's a meal without dessert, at Country Fair Cinnamon Rolls, where guilt is guaranteed if you order the new cinnamon roll sundae.

"It's our half pound cinnamon roll with two scoops of vanilla ice cream whipped cream chocolate, valley grown walnuts, bacon, and a cherry on top," said Country Fair's owner Augie Magdaleno.

The cinnamon roll sundae is salty and sweet, and a little too good to be true.

But that's what it's all about, at the Big Fresno Fair.
