FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Firefighters were busy overnight battling a fire on Highway 99 in Fresno after an accident between two large trucks.

It happened on the northbound side of the road just south of American shortly after midnight. The CHP says a big rig hauling live turkeys was pulled over on the shoulder with a flat tire. Another large truck hauling hardware supplies tried passing by but hit the other semi and caught on fire. That sparked a small grass fire.

Officials say this accident is a warning to all drivers to get to a safe place if you need to pull over.

The drivers were not injured in the crash, but several dozen turkeys were killed. Traffic was backed up for several hours in the area as crew worked to clear the scene.
