Big rig catches fire after crash near Kingsburg

FRESNO, Calif. -- A driver is in the hospital after his big rig crashed into a construction area and caught fire near Kingsburg.

Authorities say the man was driving on Southbound Freeway 99 near Sierra Street around midnight when he started to lose control of the vehicle. They say he drove through the cones in a construction area and hit cement barriers causing the big rig to catch fire.

Officials say the victim got out of the car and went looking for help. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for second and third degree burns to 80-percent of his body. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
