FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Detectives are investigating a homicide after a man's body was found southeast of Porterville Wednesday morning. Sheriff's deputies have determined the death is suspicious.
The gruesome discovery was made in an orange grove near Avenue 124 and Road 252. The sheriff's office says the man's body was found several rows into the dense grove.
"It's not an area that people would be walking by that people would be able to see this person," said Megan Rapozo with the Tulare County Sheriff's Office.
Rapozo says a farmworker discovered the man. The worker called the sheriff's office.
"I'm not sure if it was clear to him at that point whether or not if he was passed out or deceased," said Rapozo.
When deputies arrived, they discovered the man was dead. The crime lab was called out and detectives combed over the scene, looking for clues. They found evidence that makes the death suspicious, but there's no cause of death yet. Detectives are also working to figure out who this man is.
"We do want to make notification to that individual's family as soon as possible," said Rapozo.
They're hopeful that as they look at more evidence from the scene, they'll be able to piece together what happened. The coroner will be conducting an autopsy that may provide more clues in this case.
Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact the Tulare County Sheriff's Office.
