SELMA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Selma church is asking for the public's help after being burglarized last week.
Parishioners at First Free Will Baptist Church have been working to renovate the property, including new carpet throughout the entire sanctuary and stage area. But they say someone stole a 12x41-foot roll of carpet that was worth $2,000. It happened sometime between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
Workers were able to finish part of the project, but they can't get a matching replacement roll until next month. The youth director says she's just hoping and praying to get the stolen roll back in time for a big event with hundreds of people next Sunday.
"It's just really kind of devastating for us. Even though we did get a lot done, we still were able to finish, and we've had a lot of people working really, really hard to get everything done. We've been so excited for this event, and it just kind of fell apart there at the end," said Brooke Case.
The church is asking anyone with information to contact the Selma Police Department, or simply return the carpet, no questions asked.
