PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KFSN) -- An 18-month-old boy died after being hit by a U.S. Postal Service truck in Porterville. The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Delta Street and Aurora Avenue.

Porterville police say the toddler was hit by the truck delivering mail. They're still investigating how the accident happened. The child was taken to the hospital where he died.

"Situations like this are extremely difficult as a lot of our staff has children of that age or there about. It's just a tragedy for not only our department but the entire community," said Sgt. Rick Carillo of the Porterville Police Department.

Police say the Postal Service is cooperating with the investigation. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor. Police also say the truck was going at extremely slow speeds when it happened.
