FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Things did not go as planned for a Clovis couple welcoming their new bundle of joy Thursday morning. Their drive to the hospital came with lots of surprises, including the birth of their baby girl.

Veronica Lopez is enjoying peaceful moments with her bundle of joy hours after delivering her baby girl. During her car ride to the hospital, it became clear little Heidi Nicole just couldn't wait to make her entrance into the world.

Lopez said, "I just had to pull down my pants and just had her because she was coming out already."

Lopez's boyfriend, Jeff Herrera, kept calm as he drove them to the hospital from their Clovis home. Luckily he took a different route that conveniently put them in front of one of Kaiser's clinics on First Street. After parking in the clinic's loading zone, Herrera ran inside for help, just as dermatologist Dr. Ken Ellzey was walking in to start his day.

Dr. Ellzey brought along one of his nurses, who brought the supplies they needed while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. Within a matter of minutes, the ambulance arrived, taking them to the hospital, their final stop for the day.

Little Heidi Nicole's due date was actually next Monday so she was only a few days early. She weighed in at a healthy seven pounds, three ounces and is 19 inches long.
