FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Residents are coming together to help the family of a mother and daughter who died in a fiery crash in Southeast Fresno.

Jacqueline Rivera, 40, and Aaliyah Chavez, 11, were killed last Saturday night. Police say a drunk driver slammed into their SUV and left the scene. The suspect is in custody.

On Saturday, friends held a car wash fundraiser at Sunnyside High School to help pay for funeral expenses.

Loved ones say the mother and daughter had an incredibly close bond and enjoyed doing everything together. Now their family is dealing with a double loss.

"This is the least we can do for the family. If it was me, I would want my friends to be there for my family, so it's the least we can do," said Maricela Limon, a friend of the victims.

The fundraiser also included food sales and a silent auction with items donated by the community.
