Community helps Poverello House in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A group of Kaiser Permanente employees helped spruce up the Poverello House in Fresno for Martin Luther King Jr. day.

Staff and physicians worked together to put cook meals, make landscaping improvements, and even build a gazebo for shelter in the village of hope. It's part of an annual tradition for employees to give back to the community -- in observance of the late human right's leader.

"It's very much about giving back to the community," Smita Rouillard with Kaiser Permanente said. "We are servant leaders so we believe in that attitude and we believe in giving back and it's all about restoring dignity for individuals, and I think that's what Martin Luther King believed."

The Home Depot and Hands on Central California were also involved in today's event.
