FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Community members are coming together to help the family of a Fresno City College student who died last weekend. Relatives say Carlos Aguilar, 22, was killed after losing control of his truck early Sunday morning on the Golden State access road below the Highway 41 overpass.

On Saturday, they held a fundraiser to help with funeral expenses at the family's home in Southwest Fresno. Loved ones sold a variety of food and drinks all day. They say they've received tremendous support from friends and other residents.

"To see all of this come together, and all the people, the response of his friends, his family, it's really given us the strength to just take one step at a time," said Monica Aguilar, the victim's sister.

A viewing will be held on Monday at the Acosta residence -- 9123 S. Bryan Ave. in Raisin City. A mass will be held for Aguilar at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Pottle Avenue near Inyo Street in Southwest Fresno. Immediately after the mass, he will be laid to rest at Saint Peters Cemetery on Blythe Avenue near Belmont Avenue.

Family members are inviting the public to attend, and they're asking everyone to wear bright colors because he was a bright light in many lives.
