Deputy involved shooting ends after chase in Tulare

Tulare Police are investigating a deputy involved shooting
The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday near Cartmill Avenue and Hillman Street in Tulare.

TULARE, Calif. (KFSN) -- The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on Cartmill Avenue near Hillman Street in Tulare.

Investigators say the incident started as a police tried to pull over the suspect for reckless driving near Noble Avenue and Chenowth Street in Visalia. The suspect tried to evade authorities and a chase began.

The chase ended at Cartmill Avenue near De La Vina Street in Tulare, and authorities say the suspect tried ramming his truck into a deputy's patrol car multiple times. Investigators say the deputy, who was fearing for his life, then opened fire on the suspect. Tulare Police say multiple shots were fired at the suspect.

"The driver did attempt to flee. As a result, he rammed the Sheriff's deputy's vehicle in his attempt to flee. It was a threatening manner that he took upon the Sheriff's deputy," said Andy Garcia, Tulare Police Department. "He feared for his safety and shot at the driver to get him to stop his actions."

The deputy was not injured in the shooting. The suspect was rushed to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, but his condition is not known. He will be facing attempted homicide charges.
