FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The spirit of giving was alive and well Thursday in downtown Fresno thanks to one family.

Jared and Aubrie Case and their daughter handed out jackets, toys and books to the kids of families in need near the Poverello House Shelter. The couple says it was a spur of the moment act of kindness.

They bought all of the items shortly before at thrift stores, then drove downtown to hand out gifts. "You see these little kids faces out in the cold and we brought our daughter here with us and she said she was cold," Jared said. "We realized that these kids won't be able to go home or be in that warm house and wear that warm jacket."

This was the Cases second trip to the area this morning. They were there earlier with Jared's mom as she donated a number of purses.

They said they were inspired to return and make their own donation.
