Family of teens killed at Easton party pleas for witnesses

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A plea for help Friday came from the parents of two teens who were shot and killed at a party earlier in the year.

The shootings happened at a home in a rural area near Easton on January 29.

The party was held at this old house on Orange Avenue.

A poster for the party billed it as a big event, a birthday bash with beer and jungle juice -- which is a blend of grain alcohol and Kool-Aid -- it attracted a big crowd and trouble.

"A large party was taking place at this location and there were between 150 to 300 guests in attendance," Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said. "A disturbance broke out at the party and shots were fired."

"Kayla DeBorde and William Harris were struck and killed."

DeBorde was 19 years old while William was 17.

It's not entirely clear but it appears they were innocent victims of stray bullets.

Their parents joined Mims in asking for any witnesses to come forward.

"This is her, this is what I have left of my baby," Kayla's mother Brandi Collins said while holding her daughter's blanket. "If anybody has anything about these kids' death please come forward. This is all I have left of her."

"I beg, I plead with you if you have any information, whatsoever, please don't be afraid," William's father Kevin Harris said. "There are anonymous ways to contact and let what you know be heard."

In addition to witnesses, detectives would like to see any pictures or cell phone videos at the party.

Mims says this event attracted a huge crowd because it was advertised on social media, and noted that with graduation parties coming up that kind of notice can be dangerous.

"The potential dangers of advertising events to a wide, unknown audience doing so increases the chances of people showing up and causing troubles," she said.
