Firefighter hurt fighting Fresno house fire
Officials say he was helping to put out a small fire at a vacant home on B Street near Whitesbridge Avenue around 11 p.m. Saturday night. But he suffered a broken ankle after stepping off a porch into some weeds.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno Firefighter is recovering after he was hurt while responding to a house fire.

The department shared a photo on Instagram Sunday, showing the firefighter in a cast.

Firefighter Bertrand seems to be in good spirits despite the crutches. Officials say he was helping to put out a small fire at a vacant home on B Street near Whitesbridge Avenue around 11 p.m. Saturday night. But he suffered a broken ankle after stepping off a porch into some weeds.

His fellow firefighters quickly contained the flames.
