Former Chowchilla police officer facing several charges including rape
A former Chowchilla police officer was arraigned Wednesday after being accused of having sex with a student.

CHOWCHILLA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A former Chowchilla police officer was arraigned Wednesday after being accused of having sex with a student.

Tyler Hormel, 35, faces several charges including rape. The 12-year veteran of the police force most recently served as the school resource officer for the Chowchilla Elementary School District.

The Madera County Sheriff's Office said the teenage victim is a student at a school in Chowchilla but was not a student at one of the schools where Hormel worked.

His bail is set at $500,000 and according to a statement from the Chowchilla police chief Hormel was fired from the force after an internal investigation.
