PASADENA, Calif. -- A former associate producer for the reality TV series "Deadliest Catch" was shot and killed outside his home in an unincorporated section of Pasadena on Friday.

Family members identified the victim to Eyewitness News as 24-year-old Joe McMahon.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies from the Temple Station responded to the 3600 block of Yorkshire Road in a neighborhood known as Chapman Woods around 2:19 a.m. after receiving a call about possible shots fired.

When deputies arrived, they found McMahon on the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said he lived just one driveway away from where his body was found. There was no indication that he had any gang ties, and authorities do not believe drugs were involved.

Investigators said McMahon left his house shortly before the shooting. A motive was not known.

Witnesses said they heard gunshots and the sound of a car speeding away. The only description available of that car was that it was a compact vehicle. However, detectives are not sure if that vehicle is related to the shooting or if that driver was simply in the area and was trying to escape the gunfire.

There was a deputy-involved shooting on the same street about a week ago, but detectives say that incident was not connected to Friday's fatal shooting.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
