Members of the Fresno community gather to call an end to gun violence
Pastors, community members, even law enforcement officers are demanding change.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A chaotic scene in Southwest Fresno as investigators search for yet another suspect in yet another deadly shooting. Police said the suspect jumped a fence and ran off and just two miles away dozens of people gathered to end this very violence.

"It is kind of ironic that during the meeting the victim ends up dying," said Jerardo Chamalbide, Fresno Police Department.

Pastors, community members, even law enforcement officers are demanding change. Tired of gang violence and lives lost George Travis said he is ready to fight.

"Anyone can have a gun but it takes a smart man to use his head."

The group is trying to start in the home-- reinvigorating programs that reach out to families so they can get through to the gang members.

"I understand a little bit more about life and I just don't want the kids that I can save not to go that direction," said Travis

The faith community is leading the charge, but urging others to get involved this summer. Until then murders like the one in Southwest Fresno and some fear will continue to be all too common.

"I hope it ends today, but unfortunately, it's not up to me . It's up to the community and it's up to the individuals running around with the nonsense," said Travis.
