FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- It recognizes each driver for 1 million accident-free miles.
It seemed like an ordinary Friday for postal service workers, the mail is sorted, route collected and Jeff Byrnes will deliver to anywhere from 400 to 700 residents. But it's what started his day that separates him from the rest.
Following in his grandfather's footsteps, Byrnes joined an exclusive club that took him more than 30 years to earn his membership.
He along with 5 other drivers are the newest inductees to the million mile club -- celebrating 1 million accident-free miles delivering mail. "You gotta be careful watch what you're doing and watch other people," Byrnes exclaimed
"To drive in our neighborhoods accident-free is quite the accomplishment," Post Master Eve Forrest said. "So, we want to take the time to recognize that."
Family and friends gathered at the Griffith Way post office to celebrate a combined 180 years of driving. "You have to really pay attention," postal worker Joan Nakamura said.
Nakamura takes pride in the accomplishment and says she takes driving seriously. "What was it like putting that jacket on? That's what I've been waiting for," Nakamura said.
Recognizing their commitment to service, Forrest says their drivers strive for excellence. "Our focus is to provide safety for our employees and for the community and they're shining examples of just that," Forrest said.
