Fresno PD Mounted Patrol saddles up for fundraiser
The Fresno Police Department's Mounted Patrol Unit is one of the only horseback units in the San Joaquin Valley.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno Police Department's Mounted Patrol Unit is one of the only horseback units in the San Joaquin Valley. They operate on funds they raise, and they're preparing for a big fundraiser.

The officers on horseback frequently patrol River Park, as well as community events in the Tower District. The mounted patrol was established in 1993. In 2010, the department nearly did away with the unit because of budget cuts, but the unit was kept alive thanks to donations from the community.
