MAGEC conducts sweep, arrests gang members with domestic violence charges
Work doesn't stop for police and victim's advocates after MAGEC sweep.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Known gang members wanted on domestic violence charges were rounded up by three teams from Fresno's gang task force known as MAGEC.

The teams made a total of seven arrests. They searched twelve locations for either wanted subjects or parole or probation searches.

Fresno Police Sgt. Mindy Casto leads Fresno Police Department's domestic violence unit, and also lead one of today's three MAGEC teams.

She says domestic violence is not simply a family problem, but is real violence that often spills out into the streets.

In terms of case volume, she says her unit, which includes six other detectives, is probably the busiest.

"Last year my unit investigated about 6,500 cases of domestic violence in this city so we definitely have our hands full," Casto said. "And every single day we work to investigate these cases and it's not just about the arrest, it's about prosecution."

MAGEC brought two Fresno Police chaplains and a Marjaree Mason Center advocate along today for victim support services.
