MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A grass fire came dangerously close to the Merced County landfill on Monday. Crews worked quickly to contain the flames off Highway 59.

Firefighters say the fire charred about eight to 10 acres, but they managed to keep it from spreading into the landfill. The cause is still under investigation, but officials say it's possible the flames could have been sparked by a vehicle since they were burning so close to the road.
