FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who injured a teenage boy. It happened at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and Huntington Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses and first responders rushed to help the 14-year-old victim after he was hit. Investigators say the boy was riding his skateboard in the crosswalk, when he was struck by a champagne-colored Toyota Camry. His injuries did not appear to be very serious, but he was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

One bystander says she helped calm the boy until paramedics arrived, and she saw the driver take off. "The car actually stopped for a split second on the other side of the road before taking off, so I know the car knew he did something," said Megan Edwards.

"Had the driver just stuck around, it would have been a traffic accident. However, him leaving the scene makes it worse on the driver for obvious reasons," said Sgt. Eddie Barrios of the Fresno Police Department.

Police say it appears the driver may have had the right of away and just did not see the teen. But now the suspect could face felony charges.
