Investigators look into suspicious house fire in Fresno County

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Investigators now believe an abandoned house fire in Fresno County may have been the work of an arsonist.

It happened around midnight near American and Maple. When fire crews arrived, they found large flames coming from the house and decided the best approach was just to let it burn out.

Because no power was running through the structure, investigators believe the fire may have been intentionally set.

"Sometimes there's people who squat in these homes and or illegal activity. I can't say that's the case here, but that has been something we have dealt with in the past," said Chris Bump, Cal Fire.

Crews say the fire didn't spread to the dry brush surrounding the home.
