Kids and Merced authorities bond through sports

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A track meet is helping to strengthen the relationship between kids and peace officers.

Hundreds of young athletes from across the state competed in a Bridging the Gap event at Merced College Saturday.

It was organized by the Minds in Motion youth track club. Local law enforcement agencies took part in some of the races even teaming up with kids for a relay.

The Merced County Sheriff's Office also brought out some of its special equipment to give families a closer look at everything from the SWAT robot to search dogs.
